12 Days Annapurna MTB Tour

Day 1-Arrival in KTM

You will be welcomed by our guide at Kathmandu airport on the first day of your mountain biking holiday in Nepal and transferred to your tour accommodation in Kathmandu valley.

Here, you will be briefed on the amazing mountain bike adventure that awaits, and introduced to our support crew.

With bikes built, tuned and readied for a prompt roll-out tomorrow we will settle down to dinner Suitably fed and watered we retire to rest up for tomorrow for the start of our shared adventure!

Day 2- KTM- Besisahar

We will start  in the morning in vehicle and exit Kathmandu through Prithvi Highway. It will be a comfortable 6 hours ride to Besisahar, the starting point to Annapurna Circuit. Annapurna Machhapuchhre Lamjung Himal are the beautiful scenes that can be viewed from north of Besishahar Municipality. The Marshyandi River flows north to south in the east of Besishahar Municipality. We will have enough time to explore Besisahar town. We will also meet our porters, if any and make final preparations for our trip.

Day 3-Besisahar - Tal

This will be the start for biking. We will riding alongside Marshyandi river following narrow jeep track. It will be around 1000m of gentle uphill and 40km ride to reach there. Tal is full of natural beauty with cascading waterfalls that joins to Marshyandi river. Between the steep sided valley, lies the tal with farms and small villages.

Day 4-Tal - Chame

We will gain elevation of about 1200m just by riding 22km to Chame, so this one will be a bit tough ride. The most perilous stretch from Tal to Chamje is a narrow ledge chiselled into the side of a cliff. We will be riding through jungles in jeep tracks passing water falls on the way. The ride will 4-5 hours around.

Day 5-Chame- Manang

From Chame, it’s around 30km to Manang with an uphill of around 1000m. Big mountains looms all around , filled with pine forest. The road gets rocky from Bhratang. After some zigzag section and crossing a bridge, we will Pokhari towards Lower Pisang. After climbing the steep uphill at Pisang, we will see Humde at distance. The jungle opens up to arid mountain region where the view of Himalayas gets even better as we climb. An hour ride from Humde, we will reach Manang.

Day 6-Rest day

This will be a rest day for acclimatizing and preparing for the higher altitude and harder parts. We will not be wasting our day though. We will be doing short hikes to the nearby high altitude lakes and explore the Manang village and monasteries. You will come face to face with true mountain wilderness here. Make sure you have your camera ready as you will miss out some great pictures otherwise.

Day 7-Manang – Thorong Phedi

Riding through narrow alleyways between the old houses, we depart Manang towards Yak Kharka by Jarsang River. The beautiful landscape with the excellent view of Himalaya would make you feel like something from different world. From Yak kharka to Thorung phedi, you get even more stunning view of Annapurna. The settlements get sparser as we move ahead. Most of the ride is dominated by single tracks.  We cross The 16km ride will see us climb more than 1000m. As soon as we cross the Jorsang River, we will reach Thorung Phedi shortly. We will cross Tenki Manang village on the way before reaching Thorung Phedi.

Day 8-Thorang Phedi - Muktinath

This may be the hardest ride of the whole tour.  We will make a predawn start  to avoid  strong wind blowing across the pass after 11am. The first part of the ride is long uphill climb to a high altitude Thorong la 5416m, mostly pushing and carrying the bike. The trail becomes steep immediately upon leaving Thorung Phedi, and the low level of oxygen at such high altitude makes the climb even tougher. We will reach the Pass in about 5 hours. The panoramic view of Dhaulagiri (8175m) and Tukuche peak (6920m) standing tall from across the Kali Gandai Valley is magnificient.  Either side of the Pass is towered by twiln 6500m peaks.  The second part will see us descend 1600m to Muktinath on technical single track. Once at Muktinath, we will be exploring the religious site and see the eternal flame that burns forever. Muktinath is an important hindu temple with 108 fountains.

Day 9- Muktinath - Marpha - Tukuche

Next day, we make a leisurely start , enjoying downhill track descending to the kaligandaki valley. Through the arid geaography , we pas some small villages with Tibetan architechture. After few hours of descent, we reach JOmsom town that spread along bith the banks of KaliGandaki where we will be able to enjoy views of the Nilgiri Peaks (7061m and 6940m), Tilicho Peak (7,134m) and the Dhaulagiri Range. Then its to Marpha , village famous for its apple. Make sure you try the famous Apple brandy and dried apple. We ride through the farms below Marpha and continue down the Kali Gandaki reaching Tukuche village, an ancient Thakali settlement. We will spend some time exploring the cobbled lanes and Thakali culture , learning about its culture and history. Tukuche lies right beneath the Tukuche peak and Dhaulagiri, with amazing views of Mt. Nilgiri, and icefalls of Dhaulagiri’s east face.

Day 10-Tukuche - Tatopani

Ride from Tukuche will see us through some awesome downhill section. We will be riding alongside  Kali Gandaki river To Tatopani. Passing through Juniper and Cypress forest, we will admire the world’s deepest Dana Gorge between the Annapurna I and Dhaulagiri. Shortly, we will reach Tatopani where hot springs awaits us. Tatopani translates to hot water. You will get yourself pampered here with a soothing bath in hot spring. This will definitely rejuvenate your mind body and soul.

Day 11-Tatopani - Beni - Pokhara

This will be the last leg of our journey. Around 24km , mostly downhill through villages to Beni. We will be spending few hours in Beni Bazar, then its 4 hour ride to Pokhara by vehicle. On reaching Pokhara, you will have enough time to enjoy boating on Phewa Lake and have pleasant time reflecting on the exhilarating adventure around the Himalayas.
